Arab American poet, essayist, and performer Claudia Saleeby Savage (AKA Claudia F. Savage) is one-half of the sound-text performance duo Thick In The Throat Honey and an emeritus fellow of The Black Earth Institute. Her poems and interviews have been published widely and she’s been nominated for Pushcarts and The Best of the Net. She’s garnered awards from Jentel, Ucross, The Atlantic Center for the Arts, The Mineral School, Hambidge, PJCE, Oregon State University, Brush Creek, and Portland’s Regional Arts and Culture Council, as well as serving on the boards of the experimental theatre organization BOOM Arts and the Literary Arts Youth Council.
She has an M.A. in Asian literature and women’s studies and is deeply grateful for her time spent studying with the incomparable Max Regan and brilliant Alice Notley. Throughout her writing life, she has revitalized her practice through collaboration with visual artists, musicians, dancers and other writers.
When teaching, she’s most excited about fostering discovery and providing a place where students feel safe and supported to dive deep. Her great joy is watching an exercise or discussion bring about a revelation that will deepen a student's artistic practice, and, in turn, their life.
